43 Green

Urban Design + Planning

COMPLETED IN 2025

As the first equitable transit-oriented development on the South Side, 43 Green is a multi-phase housing development anchored by the 43rd Street Green Line station. Located in Bronzeville–a century-old hub for Chicago's African American community–the development is a collaboration between many community design partners and is comprised of two mixed-use buildings, each including more than 50% affordable units, and delivers high-quality, amenity-rich affordable housing alongside commercial space. This public-private investment revitalizes the 43rd Street corridor, attracting teachers, tradespeople, and young professionals alike while honoring the community's legacy and infusing the neighborhood with much-needed affordable housing.

Balancing urban presence with neighborhood integration was an essential aspect for the 43 Green development. The two 10-story buildings command a strong presence on 43rd Street with stepped-back facades and transparent retail edges that create ground-floor activation. Large community rooms open to landscaped terraces across multiple levels, with upper terraces providing sweeping downtown and city views. The generous windows and common areas provide additional functional space for residents in efficiently sized units

43 Green is born directly from the heart of the community. The project is led by a joint venture between P3 Markets, a Bronzeville-based development company, and The Habitat Company, a full-service developer and property management company with nearly 50 years of experience developing and managing residential and mixed-use projects in Chicago.
