KANSAS CITY, MO

Phil B. Curls Manor

Affordable Senior Housing

COMPLETED IN 2017

Phil B. Curls Manor is the first phase of the Kansas City Intergenerational Community in Kansas City, MO. The 4-story building provides 54 affordable apartments for seniors and amenities that include a theater, community room, fitness center, bike storage, in-unit laundry, and a medical exam room. The building is named after longtime Kansas City lawmaker Phil B. Curls, who was instrumental in the passage of bills relating to economic development, housing, child and family services, health care, and education. He dedicated his time to increasing education opportunities for disadvantaged youth and expanding the representation of the Kansas City African American community in elective offices.

LBBA planned the Kansas City Intergenerational Community project to strengthen existing connections within the community. The project consists of affordable senior housing, mixed senior and intergenerational infill housing, and a new intergenerational village and community hub. Sustainable, natural, and low-maintenance landscapes will facilitate passive stormwater management throughout the new neighborhood.
