Affordable + Mixed-Income Housing
IN PROGRESS
As a part of the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan
for Transformation, Parkside of Old Town shifts the old public housing model to a mixed-income strategy. At Cabrini Green, residents were cut off from the rest of the city. Physically and psychologically, they were a city apart. The new development aims to eliminate those barriers through lower-density development, greater income diversity among tenants, and amenities that attract residents across a broad range.
Parkside of Old Town’s latest phase introduces four new buildings, adding 99 units to the development. Three walk-up buildings will offer diverse floor plans, from studios to four-bedroom units, while the fourth, an eight-story precast concrete midrise, will provide 69 apartments. Setbacks on the upper floors reduce the building’s bulk and provide common and private rooftop decks for residents.
The units will be mixed-income with CHA replacement units, affordable units, and market-rate units.
