Affordable + Mixed-Income Housing

IN PROGRESS

As a part of the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation, Parkside of Old Town shifts the old public housing model to a mixed-income strategy. At Cabrini Green, residents were cut off from the rest of the city. Physically and psychologically, they were a city apart. The new development aims to eliminate those barriers through lower-density development, greater income diversity among tenants, and amenities that attract residents across a broad spectrum.

Parkside of Old Town’s latest phase introduces four new buildings, adding 99 units to the development, including CHA replacement units, affordable units, and market-rate units. Three walk-up buildings offer diverse floor plans, from studios to four-bedroom units, while the fourth, an eight-story precast concrete midrise, provides 69 apartments. Setbacks on the upper floors reduce the building’s bulk and provide common and private rooftop decks for residents. This is the third phase of Parkside of Old Town that LBBA has designed in partnership with Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation and Cabrini Green Community Development Corp.
