Black History Month: John Moutoussamy

In celebration of Black History Month, we want to commemorate John Moutoussamy and his contributions to Chicago’s housing. As one of the first Black architects to become a partner in a major firm, Moutoussamy was a key member of Dubin, Dubin, Black & Moutoussamy’s success with designing buildings under the 1968 Housing Act. The Housing Act provide a new source of low-cost financing that allowed for below-market rents and spurred an increase in affordable housing. We’re currently rehabilitating one of the first projects built under this new act, Island Terrace. For more information about John Moutoussamy’s legacy visit the sources below.
