South Suburban Senior Housing Apartments Ribbon Cutting
South Suburban Senior Housing Apartments in downtown Harvey, also known as the YMCA building, had its celebratory ribbon cutting last Thursday. Mayor Christopher Clark, Toni Preckwinkle, POAH’s Vice President of Real Estate Development for the Midwest Region, Bill Eager, and residents spoke, while many other HUD, POAH, and community members were there to show support.
In 2019, Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) purchased the 120-unit apartment building from the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. Since the purchase, POAH has facilitated the renovation while staying true to the building’s original purpose as affordable housing for seniors.
The building’s central location is in proximity to the nationally recognized Ingalls Memorial Hospital, the also newly renovated Harvey Public Library, one block from the Harvey Metra rail station, and less than 30 minutes from downtown Chicago.
This exciting rehab is accompanied by several other revitalization projects that will bring new life to downtown Harvey.
