Terrace 459 and DA+HC Receive Design Excellence Awards

parkside of old town 2b and dorchester art + housing collaborative were honored with distinguished building awards during aia chicago’s annual designight at navy pier’s grand ballroom on friday, october 14th.

Terrace 459 at Parkside of Old Town brings 106 mixed-income apartments to former Cabrini-Green Extension North– 36 units of replacement housing for former Cabrini residents, 27 affordable units, and 43 market-rate units. The buildings in this phase were designed to animate the intersection at Division and Cleveland and support a positive pedestrian experience. In turn, an enlivened street encourages activity along Division Street as the project works to integrate the larger development into the surrounding city. LBBA accepted the award alongside representatives from Holsten Redevelopment Corporation and McKay Landscape Architects.

Dorchester Art + Housing Collaborative, the transformation of an abandoned CHA property into an Arts Center and mixed-income housing for artists and art-interested residents, received a Special Recognition Award for Adaptive Reuse as Catalyst for Social Change. The project is currently being exhibited in Quito, Ecuador, as part of the bi-decennial UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III. Since winning the 2016 AIA/HUD Secretary’s Award in Creating Community Connection, the project is being used as a case study for its use of arts programming, public/private partnerships, and adaptive reuse to revitalize neighborhoods.
